Ugly Statue House
There is a house in Camarillo that people called the Statue House. It is a house on the road going up the hill to the Camarillo Heights. This house has 100's of naked statues around the home. The statues are on the gate every 4 feet, on the porch, on the driveway, on the front yard and around the pool. No joke, these naked statues are everywhere. Some friends of mine have even bought clothes from the thrift store and would put them on the statues in the middle of the night. This house is known throughout Camarillo. Well, this past week something very tragic happen. The house burned to the ground. So this morning Tyler and I went for a walk and saw the damage. It was amazing to see this house all in shambles. You can see tons of broken statues everywhere. It really makes you think that everything can be lost in a matter of moments. I would have never lived in the house, but everyone in Camarillo knew of the statue house. I am sad that it is no longer with us.

That place was so crazy with all the statues. You couldn't help but stare and slow down as you drove by. How sad that it burnt down though. Wasn't it like one of the older houses in Camarillo?
That is really sad! I didn't know that. Oh my goodness what am I going to use as a point of reference now when I am giving people directions in that area?
WHAT?!!! Oh my gosh! I totally remember that house. Thanks for stopping and taking pictures. Old ugly statue house, may you rest in peace.
Oh how sad!!!!
I can't believe I don't remember this house. It seemed like anyone who was someone knew about this house. Is it bad that I find destruction fascinating? Don't get me wrong I feel bad for this persons loss.
Candace, does anyone know how it burned down? So sad, it was a great, but very funky house
The owner of the house, Gene, died this past year of cancer...he has been a customer in our store since the 70's. He built this house himself and added all the statues and the beautiful stained glass windows for his wife. She is very ecentric, I've been told...never met her, though. Else said their son came into the store this week after the fire and told Else his mother is alright. He had just left the house for Home Depot and when he came back to work on it, it was burned. I do feel so sad at anyones loss....a lifetime of memories gone up in smoke! With losing her husband also this year, I really feel for this woman.
Hey - If you don't update your blog soon I am going to scream. Love, Cristin
